A sip of Asanas with a Love twist

by Dj

One of the reasons yoga postures are so powerful is the internal attitudes (bhavas) they promote. Yoga postures can provoke profound and positive changes in the way we relate to ourselves and the world around us.
Back bending postures are real self-confidence and self-reliance boosters. Back bending postures support us in cultivating the internal attitude of Aiswara.

Aiswarya:
When one is truly on the path of yoga, the feelings of achievement, satisfaction and knowledge, coexisting with profound humility, are bound to be present. All these qualities together refer to the bhava of Aiswarya. Ultimately, it adds confidence to one's personality.
This Bhava is difficult to understand theoretically, but is easier to experience through perseverance and faith. The components of Aiswarya are confidence, self-reliance, sense of achievement, etc. So, pick a back bend posture you feel comfortable with and be open to notice the feelings that may arise from it. You may begin by observing the physical sensations and then shift your investigative attention to any feelings that may arise... Simple back bends are the best start. I suggest bitilasana or bhujangasana. Remember to do a counter-posture after a back bend; it should be followed by a forward bend and a twist.
Stay tuned for more postures and bhava combos in the next newsletters.
